Pahalgam, surrounded by the beautiful Lidder River, picturesque green meadows, stunning valleys, lush pine backwoods, and snow-clad Himalayan peaks, offers some of the most breathtaking views in the world.

Having said that, there are a few places worth mentioning. In this post, I will list all of these tourist attractions, providing a detailed overview of places to visit and things to do in Pahalgam.

Pahalgam is one of Kashmir's three most popular tourist destinations, along with Gulmarg and Sonamarg. No trip to Kashmir is complete unless you include Pahalgam on your itinerary and stay for a few days.

About Pahalgam

The name Pahalgam literally translates to "a village of shepherds." Its pristine beauty and scenic locations provide numerous opportunities to explore both nature and yourself.

Because of the exotic locations, many films have been shot here. Pahalgam has something to offer every type of traveller. Whether you are travelling with family or in a group, as a couple, or as a solo traveller, Pahalgam has plenty to charm you and rejuvenate your body and soul.

Pahalgam also has religious significance. It is the site of the famous Amarnath Yatra, an annual Hindu pilgrimage to Lord Shiva's cave shrine known as Amarnath Gufa. Every year in July, millions of devotees flock here to begin their pilgrimage to the famous shrine.

Betaab Valley

This picture-postcard setting is located between Pahalgam and Chandanwari, about 15 kilometres from Pahalgam. If you read an article or consult a travel guide, you will find this name among the top 5 places to visit in Pahalgam.

The name Betaab Valley comes from the 1980s hit Bollywood film of the same name, which was extensively shot here. It was previously known as Hagan Valley, which is still its official name, but the name Betaab Valley is more commonly used.

This valley is characterised by lush green pastures surrounded by snow-capped mountains, tall Deodar trees, and pine forests. When you combine this with the Lidder River flowing through it, you have a complete package to feed your body, mind, and soul.

The breathtaking beauty all around you will enchant you. Not only does Betaab Valley have a beautiful landscape, but it is also a popular starting point for many treks. Those of you who are adventurous will find it an ideal starting point for a thrilling trek.

Aru Valley

The charming Aru Valley is also on the list of must-see places in Pahalgam. It is breathtakingly beautiful and about 15 kilometres from Pahalgam.

In fact, the drive from Pahalgam to Aru Valley is so beautiful that you won't be able to put down your cameras for even a second.

The valley's spread of lush green meadows gives the impression of being in another world. Spending a few quiet hours in nature is the most compelling reason to visit Aru Valley. Furthermore, it is an ideal location for honeymooning couples.

Aru Valley serves as a starting point for numerous treks, lakes, and meadows. There are numerous resorts in the area that offer a variety of activities.

The Aru River, a tributary of the Lidder River, runs through the area, adding to its natural beauty. Then there's Aru village, which will welcome you with open arms to experience their way of life and enjoy their hospitality.


ARU VALLEY

Chandanwari

Chandanwari, about 15 kilometres from Pahalgam, is distinguished by snow-covered vistas. It is a beautiful location that is also religiously significant. This is where the Amarnath Yatra begins.

It is a Hindu pilgrimage trek that takes place every year in the month of Sawan (July-August). Aside from that, this is a great place to take in the natural beauty. This is the place to be if you enjoy playing in the snow.

This picturesque location features undulating landscapes that will warm your heart. The drive to Chandanwari is thrilling in and of itself. The road meanders alongside the Lidder River, providing a clear view of the snow-capped mountains.

Aside from that, there are numerous waterfalls to be found along the way. You can stop at any of these and have a quick picnic or take as many pictures as you want.

There is a facility for renting snow boots and jackets, so you can enjoy the snow without restriction.

Baisaran Hills

This lush green meadow, known as 'Mini Switzerland,' is a sight to behold. It gets its name from the meadows that resemble those found in Switzerland. This lovely spot, only 6 kilometres from Pahalgam, is ideal for a leisurely stroll or a family picnic.

The place's pristine beauty is a must-see for everyone. The green grass surrounded by thick pine trees gives this place a carpet-like appearance, which contrasts with the snow-white hills visible on one side.

Ponies are required to travel to Baisaran Hills. The ride is terrifying, thrilling, and adventurous all at the same time. With the pony walking on the edge of the hill, there are some scary moments, but the natural scenic view along the way makes you forget about it and soak in the beauty all around.

The view of the Lidder Valley from here is spectacular. At Baisaran Hills, you can also participate in activities such as zorbing and fun games.

Aishmuqam

Aishmuqam is the shrine of a Sufi saint known as Zaino Shah Sahib, Baba Zaina-ud-din Wali. It is approximately 19 kilometres from Pahalgam.

You can actually visit it on your way to or from Pahalgam. The shrine is located on a hill, and every year in April, a one-week long festival is held here to honour Shiekh Zaina-ud-din Wali.
